Edward Yang’s sophomore feature depicts a city lost in dreams. Lung, a former baseball player, remains shackled to nostalgia as Chin, an ambitious careerwoman, clings onto hope for a better future. Caught between tradition and modernity, the fracturing of one couple’s relationship mirrors Taipei’s eroding cultural identity amidst rapid globalization. (JK)
