Hane

HANE: a space that can be constantly redefined. Guided by the principle of the commons, the foyer of SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA, aka HANE, is a shared space that transforms according to the wishes and needs of the community temporarily inhabiting it.

A Turkish/Persian term that is often combined with another word to describe the function of a space, HANE becomes: MAYHANE (a space to host, eat, drink and exchange); KIRAATHANE (a library, a space to read and reflect); MUSICHANE (a place to celebrate togetherness though performance, music and movement); and in the warmer summer months, it expands to include GARDENHANE (a flourishing green space nestled behind the cinema which serves the dual function of open air cinema).

Though constantly in flux, the underlying goal remains the same: to create a convivial space that is inviting and useful for our guests from the local neighborhood and from further afield.
