Tibet Film Festival 2023

བོད་ཀྱི་གློག་བརྙན་དུས་ཆེན། ༢༠༢༣
Curated by Tara Balok & Luisa Matthias

The Tibet Film Festival is a two-day curated film programme which aims to advocate for contemporary Tibetan filmmaking, while also encouraging wide ranging conversations between audience members, filmmakers and curators alike. This year’s programme consists of a rich selection of documentaries, features and shorts which invite the viewer to immerse themselves in complex interconnected themes such as resistance, religion, mythology and diasporic experience, screenings which will be framed by interludes which aim to encourage discussion and sharing. Using the analogy of a theatre play, we invite you to understand the shared space of SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA as a common stage where, through collaborative and playful encounters we can use film as the impetus to foster collaboration, togetherness and solidarity.

Tara Balok and Luisa Matthias are the initiators of the Tibet Film Festival in Berlin, which  launched in 2020. Both studied at the Institute for Asian/African Studies (IAAW) at Humboldt University in Berlin.  Tara is currently completing her M.A. in Critical Diversity and Community Studies at the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences, while Luisa is an apprentice baker dreaming of running her own bakery. Having discovered their love for Tibetan film together, they founded the non-profit association Tibet Film Festival Berlin e.V. in 2021 to bring Tibetan film to cinemas in Berlin.
