This short programme compiles the politics of marginal or “transtopian” spaces from different continents and backgrounds - from an Arab shisha bar in the midst of a political-memory crisis to a queer dystopia in France, an Afro hair salon in the UK to tabooed sexual encounters in Cambodia. It showcases how such a zone of encounters allows the people within to transform class-based solidarity in order to express their desires, nostalgia and dreams, and to transgress norms. The subsequent presentation by Raphael Daibert will expand on the relationship between knowledge of communal spaces and queerness. (SU)
