Thai artist and filmmaker Ing Kanjanavanit (Ing K.) is a radical and courageous contemporary filmmaker.

In 2012, she directed SHAKESPEARE MUST DIE, the first ever cinematic adaptation of a Shakespeare play in Thailand. From the outset, it becomes apparent that this unique work, staged in a dynamic and colorful style that mixes soap opera and popular theater traditions, is a theater within a theater. The manner in which Ing K invites the audience to intervene at the end of the play is perhaps the best explanation as to why the Thai censors deemed this opus magnum guilty of "arousing national dissent"; as with her debut feature film My Teacher Eats Biscuits (1998), it is still forbidden from being shown in cinemas in Thailand.

Gary Vanisian, in charge of the project coordination at Sinema Transtopia, is a filmmaker, film curator and author, and founding member of the film association Filmkollektiv Frankfurt e.V. In 2017, he organized a retrospective of Ing K’s work in Frankfurt/Main and Paris at the Cinéma du réel. One of his interests in his work as a film programmer is interrelationship between genre cinema and auteur movie.

Ing K, born in 1959, Ing K worked as a journalist specialising in environmental issues throughout the 1980s before turning to filmmaking. In 2018, she founded - together with the photographer Manit Sriwanichpoom - the alternative off-cinema Cinema Oasis in Bangkok which is one of the few independent spaces of its kind in Thailand.
