Yoseli likes to watch soap operas and has a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower on her back. She always dreamed of traveling, but when she tried, she was arrested at the airport for illegal drug trafficking. Nacho is a trans man who is in prison for fraud and has formed a rock band with other trans prisoners. He falls in love with Yoseli. Soft or hard, blonde or shaved, cis or trans, long-term prisoners or newly imprisoned: In this multi-layered musical, each inmate reimagine their time in a Buenos Aires detention center.

REAS is a collective work, a theatrical-hybrid production which reinvents the genre of the musical to offers ingenious forms of collective empowerment: The performers dance and sing about their prison experiences, reviving them as fiction, and use fantasy and imagination to play out possible futures for themselves by reenacting scenes from the past. Created by award-winning theater and film director Lola Arias, REAS celebrated its world premiere at the 2024 Berlinale.
