Introduction by Annouchka de Andrade
Many important poets were among Sarah Maldoror’s friends, and she herself always moved through her work and private life with a poetic eye: In Louis Aragon - un Masque à Paris, Maldoror meets the surrealist poet at an improvised performative reading in his apartment. From Cayenne to Paris, Maldoror wanders through the landscapes where the Guyanese writer lived in Léon G. Damas. Here, Damas’ companions Aimé Césaire and Léopold Sédar Senghor bear witness to the poetic power of this co-founder of Négritude. During a tribute to the surrealist poet and black activist in Miami, Maldoror meets her friend again in Aimé Césaire - Le Masque des Mots while Le Cimetière du Père Lachaise moves between memorial stones and greenery, past the cats of the famous cemetery, to the sounds of poems by Apollinaire and Eluard.
