Sevmek Zamanı

Metin Erksan, Turkey 1965, 84 Min., Turkish with English subtitles

Metin Erksan’s Sevmek Zamanı (Time to Love) is a visually poetic and deeply philosophical drama that stands as a cult classic of Turkish new wave cinema. It follows a humble and introverted painter who becomes enraptured not with a real woman, but with her image. However, when the woman herself unexpectedly steps into his life, the boundaries between reality and imagination blur. An unconventional romance that explores the dark recesses of idealized and obsessive love. The director, Metin Erksan won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale in 1964 for his film ''Susuz Yaz''(Dry Summer); this was the first major film award Turkey had ever won.
