Who tells which story, and from whose perspective? Who decides what images and representations are shown? Who holds the power to represent knowledge? How can dominant social discourses and narratives be decentered? And who has access to the tools and the empowerment to fill the gaps in our collective storytelling?
It is with these and related questions in mind that SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA launches the SİNEMAplural Fellowship Program. Over the course of nine months, 15 selected fellows will have the opportunity to explore the fundamentals of film mediation through a rich seminar program.
Application deadline: May 31, 2024
SİNEMAplural is aimed at People of Color and people with migration histories who are interested in film or moving images and who want to engage critically with social and political issues such as migration, anti-racism, gender justice, and participation. The program offers insights into artistic, curatorial, and participatory practices, equipping participants to work as film mediators in a variety of social contexts — whether in cinemas, museums, schools, art and cultural institutions, or non-institutional spaces.
SİNEMAplural builds on the practice of SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA and aims to broaden the perspectives of film mediation in Germany, foster new access points and viewpoints, and develop innovative, diversity-oriented, and power-critical approaches. The program is designed to activate and apply underrepresented and overlooked knowledge and to collaboratively develop and test forward-thinking strategies for film mediation and curatorial practice in real-world projects.
Each fellow will design and implement an individual project during the course of the program, supported by an allocated project budget.
Participation in the fellowship is free of charge. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory.
The program language is German.
