Dancing in the Wind outlines the phenomenon of "live-streaming hype" in China in recent years. It follows Gu Donglin, a divorced middle-aged man who devotes himself to sharing his improvised, vibrant dancing (known as “awkward dancing” or “尬舞”) with his virtual followers. The soaring popularity of live-streaming platforms brings him both unexpected public attention and a nickname: “Red Hair Emperor”. Yet, the phenomenon soon arouses controversy for being “vulgar” and there are various attempts to regulate Gu Donglin’s “awkward dancing”, a reality he finds beyond comprehension.
