For many Persian and Central Asian communities, Nowruz is the celebration that observes the new year. It begins when the season changes from winter to spring with the vernal equinox. It is a secular holiday that people enjoy in Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, India, Pakistan and Turkey. Nowrouz is partly rooted in the tradition of Zoroastrianism and became a popular celebration among different communities. In the midst of the upheavals of the present, this programme encourages togetherness between different ethnicities and communities and invites artists, filmmakers from the region to showcase their work.

A special Nowrouz themed programme initiated by Fidan Films, AG KURZFILM, Afghan Punk with a spoken word overture by Armeghan Taheri invites you to celebrate Nowrouz at SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA. Festivities will continue at 22:00 with Zoroastrian Fire, Haft Sin and Music.

Armeghan Taheri is an artist, writer and founder of "Afghan Punk", a community magazine that creatively combines liberation struggles. She lives and works in Berlin.
