Crossing into Womanhood

Sixteen-year-old Peipei crosses the border nearly every day, traveling between her home in mainland China and her high school in Hong Kong. Customs officials glimpse her school uniform and innocent face and wave her through without a second thought. Growing up in a tropical climate, Peipei and her best friend dream of going to Japan to see real snow, but they don’t have the money. To earn some, Peipei joins a gang of smugglers and begins smuggling iPhones from Hong Kong to the mainland. She doesn’t realize that her well-paid job will soon turn her routine into something highly risky. (BX)
