For over 30 years, 77-year-old Quirino has been the only inhabitant of the ghost village of Ribeira Funda. He spends his days contemplating the sea and the majestic mountains that surround his house, and keeps himself afloat by fishing and growing vegetables. His only company is a rooster, a few sparrows and a battery-powered portable radio that connects him to the outside world. In the face of advancing age and an uncertain future, he begins to wonder whether it is not time to leave the village… (A)
Carlos Yuri Ceuninck comes from Santo Antão, Cape Verde. He studied at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV) in Cuba, specializing in documentary filmmaking. Ceuninck is an alumnus of the Hot Docs Blue Ice Group, the EFM DocSalon Toolbox Program (Berlinale) and the SDI Connecting Stories Program (Scottish Documentary Institute).
