Dear friends and supporters,
Like many fellow cultural initiatives in Berlin, we recently received devastating news of dramatic funding cuts. One year ago, with the support of our community, we successfully campaigned for our funding to be reinstated.
Now, this structural funding has been entirely cut!
Without funding: We will be unable to pay our rent or the wages of our team members.
Without funding: We will not be able to honor planned 2025 collaborations with Berlinale, Berlin Biennale, the Goethe Institute, the Deutsche Kinemathek, film festivals and NGO’s.
Without funding: We cannot hold education projects with young people from the local community which play an essential role in developing future generations of thinkers and filmmakers.
Without funding: We cannot continue ongoing archival work that makes neglected perspectives within German film history visible.
Without funding: Berlin endangers one more of its vital, long-established and beloved cultural initiatives, a space that has risen to international prominence as a unique venue for film culture, community and exchange.
Without funding: Communities in Berlin and beyond could lose a space that they have come to call home.
Without funding: We face imminent closure.
Despite the difficulties we face, we will continue to platform transnational film culture and art for as long as we possibly can!
In solidarity and hope,
The team of SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA
