His mother blames communism, his uncle blames an inheritance dispute, and the rest of the family remain in silence: Nearly 50 years after their escape from a wartorn Vietnam, Dieu Hao Do traces the ties that bind and fissures that separate his different family members. Taking us on a journey across three continents, the director asks: How does the trauma of persecution and violence inscribe itself on the bodies and souls of survivors and their children?

In cooperation with BAFNET (Berlin Asian Film Network), an organization that sees itself as a discrimination-critical initiative committed to supporting young filmmakers and differentiated representations of Asian-German realities in film and television.

Dieu Hao Do is a writer and director who explores contemporary Asian-German perspectives, as well as life in the diaspora with a focus on intergenerational issues of war, trauma and cultural heritage.
