ALLPAMANDA

Tawna. Cine desde Territorio, Ecuador 2023, 93 Min., OV with English subs

With an introduction by Galo E. Rivera

ALLPAMANDA documents 40 years of grassroots activism by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of the Ecuadorian Amazon (known as CONFENIAE in Spanish). It was collectively produced by TAWNA. Cine desde territorio, a filmmaking collective formed by members of the organisation. ALLPAMANDA provides a historical collection of archive materials depicting the joint struggle of various indigenous nationalities in the Ecuadorian Amazon, including the Kichwa, Shuar, Achuar, Waorani, Sapara, Andwa, Shiwiar, Cofan, Siona, Siekopai, and Kijus peoples. The collective effort of the CONFENIAE has led to significant policy changes and currently holds the power to mobilise entire sectors of society, including working-class, feminist* collectives, and student organisations, among others. This documentary combines precious archive material with intimate moments which capture an older generation passing on their knowledge to the younger through oral storytelling. It also explores the significance of filmmaking in constructing memory during an ongoing struggle for justice. (GR)
