Mua Cat Vong

Future Cries Beneath Our Soil
Pham Tu Hang, Vietnam 2019, 95 Min.

Mua Cat Vong is an ode to getting old and the lasting legacies of historical trauma. Tan Hiap village in Quang Tri province, the area most frequently bombarded during the Vietnam War, is now home to villagers and bomb fragments. For the people living there today, pain, fieldwork, liquor, and songs about war remain. In the distance, figures search for war fragments with metal detectors and compete with professional minesweepers who are paid by the state and donor organizations.
