Is Hindu a Gender? Hindu Nationalism and The Gender Binary in India

Part 1

This two part documentary is a cutting exploration of the connections between Hindu nationalism, masculinity and gendered violence in India. The film is set against the backdrop of the 1992 demolition of the historic Babri Mosque by Hindu fundamentalist mobs, an act encouraged by the political campaigns of prominent Hindu Right Wing politician L.K.Advani. 30 years have passed since the release of this film, but the nexus of toxic masculinity, gendered violence and Hindu supremacy gets tighter by the day, becoming a defining factor in the shaping of contemporary Indian democracy.
