On 4th October 2012, a beaming Rüzgar Erkoçlar received his first testosterone injection, a joyous occasion in his gender affirmation. Formerly a well-known actor throughout Turkey, Rüzgar hoped he could lead a private life as a trans man. With a new job at a bakery and supportive family and friends, things initially looked positive – until he was outed on Twitter. A media frenzy ensues, and the question of trans-rights grips Turkey, with Rüzgar as the reluctant figurehead. Against this backdrop, we join Rüzgar, witnessing the many obstacles he must overcome to live an authentic life and get his Blue ID.

The XPOSED Queer Film Festival Berlin celebrates its 18th edition from May 30th until June 2nd, 2024. Mavi Kimlik (Blue ID) is one of the many highlights of this year’s program, which features more than a dozen feature-length films and eight short film programs.
