“Good Kenyan girls become good Kenyan wives”. Kena learns early on what is expected of girls and women in her home country: to be well-behaved and to submit to the will of men. Her single mother is blamed for her husband leaving her for a younger woman, yet the self-confident Kena does not let anyone tell her how to live. Even though their fathers are political rivals, she befriends Ziki. At first, Kena and Ziki don't care much about the gossip in the neighborhood but when the friends fall in love, they have to choose between the supposed safety of hiding it or the chance for happiness together.
