It was only in the 1990s, with the establishment of the special tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, that serious international attempts to systematically prosecute sexualised war violence were initiated. Bigger Than Trauma tells the story of a group of women who had been victims of such crimes in Croatia in the early 1990s and are now seeking healing. A five-member NGO team has developed an elaborate psychotherapeutic programme that combines osteopathy, NLP and classical psychotherapy with a group therapy approach. 25 years after the end of the war, participants in this programme are accompanied by the camera as they come to terms with their traumatic past. With care and respectful closeness, the film tells of individual fates as well as the collective healing path that becomes possible in the therapeutic process despite the conflicts in the group. (BG)
