Devolver a Terra à Terra is an ongoing project that investigates the spiritual, political, identitarian and cultural aspects of the land. The project is composed of exhibitions, film screenings and public programs and invites the spectators to delve into narratives that foster nature-cultures agencies. The issue of territory materializes and permeates all the works as a discourse of subjectivity, coexistence, and resistance, bringing out circumstantial geographies of Brazil.

Viviane Tabach is a Brazilian curator and art mediator based in Berlin. She is part of the curatorial collective ‘Cruising Curators’ and co-founder of the project ‘Co-Making Matters’ at Haus der Statistik. Currently, Viviane is finishing both Masters Art in Context at Universität der Künste Berlin and Cultures of the Curatorial at Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst.

O Peixe/ The Fish

Located on the Northeast coast of Brazil, a village of fishermen enact a ritual of embracing the fish that they have caught. The affectionate hug that accompanies the ritual marks a passage of death and a relationship between species that is imbued with an ambiguous sequence of gestures of tenderness, violence, and domination. The utopian dream of a harmonious community with its surroundings is a testament to the lack of connection between a man from the city and the nature that is at his service.

Jonathas de Andrade lives and works in Recife, Brazil. Parting from the artist's interests in social issues, his works cross the field of language and anthropology as aspects that challenge the notion of truth, power, desire and social imaginary.

A última floresta/ The Last Forest

In an isolated Yanomami land in the Amazon, the shaman Davi Kopenawa Yanomani tries to keep the spirits of the forest and the traditions alive, while the arrival of gold prospectors brings death and destruction to the community. Young folks are charmed by the goods brought by the whites; and Ehuana, who sees her husband disappear, tries to understand what happened in her dreams.

Luiz Bolognesi was born in 1966 in São Paulo. He is an award-winning director and screenwriter. In the 80's and 90's, he studied Social Anthropology, and lived and worked as a teacher in the Pataxó indigenous community in Bahia.
