During her research on 20th-century Chinese immigrant women in show business which led to encounters with a group of elderly Chinese-American women, Luka Yuanyuan Yang discovered the hidden history of nightclubs and Cantonese opera theaters in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Inspired by their remarkable stories, she created a series of short films, each portraying the legendary lives of these women. Skillfully weaving archival footage with oral histories, these shorts vividly bring to life their personal narratives, enriching our understanding of Asian American cultural history. (HL)
