A short film program for the younger generation: we dive into the daily life of Akissi and her friends in the Ivory Coast, celebrate African dance with Zajota and the Boogie Spirit, are humorously shown the pressure of the Eurocentric ideal of beauty on the self-image of black women through the animation and collage of Hair Piece, watch Anancy - the famous trickster spider from African folklore - deliver a prescient message about environmentalism, and experience the difficulties of dealing with an AI of the distant future in Afro Algorithms.

Anatola Araba is a filmmaker, journalist, and futurist from and based in New York City. Anatola collaborated on and was featured in a series of photographs that were exhibited at the MoMA in NYC and later acquired into the museum’s permanent collection. Her films and multimedia creations have been showcased across the globe including at Lincoln Center, Art Basel, and SXSW.
