EXCAVATIONS

At SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA, we view film history as a work of memory culture and are committed to the diversity of film culture and film art.

At the same time, we raise questions about collective authorship, the status of the speculative and the fictional, and the necessity of "critical fabulation" (Saidiya Hartman). Because archives must be critically approached: Certain stories are included while others are excluded. What is presented how and by whom? Who has their say? Who tells which story, from which perspective? Archive work is a matter of principle in our cinema practice. We see cinema as a place where archives are opened up, made accessible and visible. With this ongoing series, we dive into the corners of film history for finds that have been unjustly overlooked and make voices louder that have been overheard. In doing so, we repeatedly create access to our collection and present little-known films from international archives.
