Ang Lee, Taiwan, USA 1994, 124 Min., Mandarin, Hokkien (Min Nan), Hunanese (Xiang) with English subtitles

Followed by a talk with Sissi Chen (@eatinginberlin) moderated by Jessie Lu

Eat Drink Man Woman
follows Master Chef Chu, a retired chef living with his three adult daughters in 1990s Taipei. Despite his efforts to prepare elaborate Sunday dinners, his daughters—Jia-Jen, a teacher; Jia-Chien, an executive; and Jia-Ning, a fast-food worker—are more focused on their own lives. Chu struggles with aging, losing his sense of taste, and the recent death of an old friend. While his daughters plan to find him a companion, they are shocked to learn that he has already begun a late-life romance, sparking a reevaluation of their relationships and family dynamics.
