SİNEMANINO

Arriving in a new country is not easy. People speak differently, things look unfamiliar. Are you welcome? Will you find friends? What is life like in a new city? The films take you on a journey through different times. Some things were different in the past: leaving and arriving. But many experiences are still the same today.

The current SİNEMANINO programme takes a look at the history of migration to Germany—both to the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and to the German Democratic Republic (GDR)—by bringing together children’s films from different periods. The films address the difficulties of arriving in an initially unfamiliar country and show how children sometimes have to deal with prejudice and resentment in everyday life, but also how they and their friends manage life in a new environment.

SİNEMANINO is the ongoing programme for young audiences at SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA, curated by Malve Lippmann and moderated by Martin Ganguly.

Morning cinema screenings for school classes:

Although today almost one in four people in Germany is described as having a so-called “migration background,” the history of migration as part of German history is often present only as family knowledge and is rarely addressed in public discourse or school curricula. We want to change that! Therefore, we also offer the film screenings individually or as a series in the mornings for school classes.

If you would like to visit the cinema with your class, please write to us: office@sinematranstopia.de

SİNEMANINO has so far been funded by the NEUSTART programme of the Federal Association of Sociocultural Centres (Bundesverband Soziokultur) in the programme area of cultural and sociocultural project work, as well as by the Berlin Project Fund for Cultural Education.
