Challenges and opportunities with low-budget films

This workshop is all about the art of making a high-quality film with limited resources. Using the example of the award-winning film Trading Happiness (Max Ophüls Audience Award 2020, NO FEAR - First Steps Award and Golden Rider of the Dresden Film Festival), we talk to director Duc Ngo Ngoc and camerawoman Meret Madörin about their experiences and creative solutions in producing a low-budget film.

We take a close look at key case studies from the film, which was shot abroad, and explore how documentary elements can be integrated into a feature film - not only to save costs, but also to create authenticity and a special cinematic style.

The workshop provides practical insights into:

  • Challenges and opportunities in low-budget films
  • How documentary means can enrich feature films
  • Technology, light, sound - smart solutions for small budgets
  • How Trading Happiness opened doors into the industry
  • We look forward to exchanging ideas with you.
