Magic Farm

Curated by Anand Angarag
Amalia Ulman, Argentina, United States 2025, 93 Min., English

In the viral-obsessed void of the internet, a documentary crew’s quest to film a bizarre trend strands them in a forgotten Argentine backwater. Facing a sunk budget and professional ruin, they make a desperate, cynical pivot: they will manufacture the next big thing, enlisting the town’s eager residents as unwitting co-stars in their social experiment. What begins as an exploitation of local charm spirals into a wildly reflexive, genre-bending satire of the attention economy itself. Blurring the lines between documentary, fiction, and subversive music video, artist-filmmaker Amalia Ulman crafts a brilliantly meta-tale that asks: in a world hungry for content, who gets used, who gets famous, and what is left of us when the cameras stop rolling?

“I resonate with the film because it speaks to the tension between artistic integrity and the demand for instant relevance in today’s cultural economy. It reminds me that playfulness and formal experimentation can be acts of resistance, a way to preserve creativity's heart even within systems that seek to commodify it.”––Anand Angarag

To conclude the evening, Anand will play a vinyl set inspired by the film, one he describes as “a cabinet of sonic wonders, an interplay between exoticization and de-exoticization.”

Anand Angarag is projectionist at SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA and is studying in the Master's program Art in Context at the UdK (Berlin University of the Arts).
