Seeking Haven For Mr. Rambo
tells the story of Hassan, a young man living in a working-class neighborhood in Cairo with his mother and his dog, Rambo. When their landlord tries to evict them, Hassan gets caught in a cycle of harassment and violence. After Rambo defends him, Hassan is forced to search for a safe place for his dog, traveling through the city and facing his own feelings of fear, loneliness, and hope along the way. This is a quiet, emotional film about survival, love, and what it means to feel at home in a place that often pushes you away.

Inspired by a real incident, this film is more than a story about a man and his dog. It is a reflection on everyday violence, social pressure, and emotional survival in a city that often feels overwhelming. Cairo, or “Al-Qahera” The Conqueror, is more than just a background for events, it is a presence on its own: chaotic, intimate, beautiful, and harsh.

A friend once told me, “You left Cairo, but Cairo still lives in you,” and that sentence stayed with me. This film expresses that feeling, the deep bond with a place that shaped my sense of loyalty, community, and passion, but also challenged me in ways that left a lasting mark, sometimes overwhelming, but always shaping who I became. Seeking Haven For Mr. Rambo speaks to anyone who has loved and struggled with their city. It is a love-hate letter to the places that make us, even when we’ve left them behind.

Haidy Alrafie is a creative designer and researcher from Cairo based in Berlin who draws on her multicultural experiences to create meaningful designs that resonate with people. She is currently interning as part of the communications team with SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA, where she contributes to visual storytelling and public engagement initiatives.

Husseinaya’s Kitchen serves up memory and tradition with Teta’s Date Cake, a moist dessert made from a cherished family recipe passed down by their grandparents and Karamella Popcorn Cheesecake, a classic cheesecake topped with caramelized popcorn and a touch of sea salt for the perfect sweet-salty crunch.

Omar Askar, a Lebanese singer and art director, has used music and singing to navigate life since childhood, never confined to a single genre, whether it’s classical tarab or modern pop. For him, the stage is a place of comfort and honesty, and he’s excited to bring that energy to the event with a setlist blending Arabic and English songs, hopefully sparking plenty of sing-along moments.
