“The film is not a frozen, stony or marble tomb, but on the contrary, it sets memories and images in motion, and with them, emotions. The images neither replace nor compensate for absence. The moments spent with the living have become sequences, which I edited with the vitality of our encounters and the life force of each individual, deployed on the ruins of genocide, in mind. The editing is a passing of the baton, which brings a group together: it is both a story of individual and collective survival. Gorgone is Jenny Teng's exploration of her family's trajectory through California, France, and Cambodia. Tracing her personal family history, the film reconstructs a collective narrative that tells the stories of genocide survivors and the generation after. It is a journey that engages with silence and sorrow, generational trauma, and the "in-betweenness" of diaspora identity. (Océane Vé-Réveillac)

Jenny Teng teaches directing at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University. She is currently working on Yin, a feature film set between Le Havre and Paris that tells the story of Cambodia's painful history through a daughter and her father, and Chinatown-Paris, a series that follows the fate of an Asian supermarket in the heart of the 13th Arrondissement.

Océane Vé-Réveillac is an architect, urbanist, lecturer, and curator who works on memory culture, migration and diaspora, as well as feminist urban planning and the history of housing. She co-curated "Dessauer Straße and Other Stories ofn Emancipatory Housing" at the German Architecture Centre (DAZ) and now teaches at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) and the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin).
