Shot entirely on a 2008 Sony Ericsson camera phone, Dry Leaf is a low resolution epic poem set in rural Georgia. It follows the story of Lisa, a sports photographer who has mysteriously vanished leaving behind only a letter asking not to be found. Unable to accept this unresolved farewell, her father, Irakli, and Lisa's enigmatic best friend, Levani, embark on a journey to find her.
On the way, the deliberate technical limitation of the phone camera transforms the landscape into a digital impressionist painting, a machine dream where murky rivers, glowing green grass, and featureless black forests become hauntingly beautiful. The search becomes a meditation on absence, connection, and perception, as Irakli tries to know his daughter by seeing the world through her eyes. A mesmerizing invitation to find meaning in the imperfect and the unknown. (Bethan Hughes)
