Flavia is a sharp-tongued and fiercely independent fourteen-year-old girl from a small Romanian town. With her parents in Italy for work — her mother as a caregiver, her father on a construction site — she lives alone. Forced to grow up fast, she has learned to survive using sarcasm and emotional detachment. She finds a kindred spirit in Luca, a teenage boy who is also raising his younger sister, Tina, in the absence of their own parents .

When Tina brings home two younger runaways seeking refuge, Flavia and Luca's makeshift household transforms into an improvised, self-chosen family, offering a fleeting sense of belonging and purpose. However, this fragile surrogate family is threatened when Flavia learns that her parents are heading for a divorce, cracking the already unstable foundation of her world. 

De capul nostru (On Our Own) is a coming-of-age drama that explores how a generation of children cope with the deep emotional trauma and loneliness caused by parental absence, ultimately building their own communities out of a desperate need to connect.
