Hazal is 17 and lives in Berlin-Wedding. Despite countless applications, she can't find an apprenticeship. She simply wants to celebrate her 18th birthday with her best friends but the night ends up changing her life forever.

Ellbogen, the film adaptation of the bestseller of the same name by Fatma Aydemir, portrays a young woman searching for her place in the world. A woman who has dreams but doesn't have the same opportunities to make them come true, who fights for recognition and constantly has to assert and prove herself to get it.

On January 22., there will be a special free screening of Ellbogen in collaboration with Diversify. The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Aslı Özarslan, Diversify fellow and political educator Canê Çağlar, and project manager Dr. Yonca Dege. Together, we will examine the social challenges that the film addresses and create a space for discussion about feminism, social inequality and identities. The event is open to everyone. We look forward to a lively exchange! (D)

Diversify, a project of the Deutschlandstiftung Integration and funded by the Stiftung Mercator, aims to strengthen the political participation of socially disadvantaged young people.

Canê Çağlar is a Diversify scholarship holder, political educator and doctoral candidate. In her work, she addresses structural discrimination, (multiple) marginalization and educational justice, among other issues.

Dr. Yonca Dege is a social scientist with a focus on flight, migration and political participation and heads the Diversify project at the DSI.

Aslı Özarslan is a director and author. Her debut film project ELLBOGEN was screened in the Generation 14+ section at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival and has won several national and international awards.
