Followed by a talk with Yüksel Yavuz (in German)
Hamburg. A city of ports and passageways. Baran, a young Kurdish orphan, moves through it almost unseen. After his asylum application is rejected, his existence is reduced to the back doors of a Turkish fast-food eatery where he works as a delivery boy.
When sixteen years old Chernor arrives from Africa – also undocumented, also surviving on the edges – a friendship flickers to life. As the two young men share the weight of being unwanted, Chernor begins to sell drugs to save for a ticket to Australia, a place he's only dreamed of. Meanwhile, Baran's past resurfaces in the form of an old acquaintance who may hold the key to his parents' death. Yüksel Yavuz’s Kleine Freiheit is a nuanced portrayal of the hope that must be carved out when the world offers none.
Restored twenty three years after its premiere, join us and director Yüksel Yavuz in celebrating the Berlin-premiere of the restoration.
