The continuation of the programme series Sarah Maldoror. Kontext will focus on contemporary (post)migrant and diasporic realities from October to December 2024. Last June, a week-long comprehensive retrospective on Sarah Maldoror (1929-2020) took centre stage. Maldoror is one of the pioneers of African and Afro-diasporic cinema. The cultural heritage of the African continent was one of the central themes of her film practice.
In November, the evening A Trace of Palestine curated by Nahed Awwad at SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA will focus on the expulsion of the Palestinians in 1948 (Nakba) with short films. Exodus and exile are examined from different perspectives and generations. Afterwards, members of the Palestinian community in Berlin will tell their stories and how they are preserving their past here in Germany today.
The network Frauen machen Druck invites you to a linoleum printing workshop in the Frauen*Erzählsalon in cooperation with Elisi Evi e.V. to draw, cut and print together as part of the project Frauen porträtieren Frauen.
Gaby Babić, born in 1976 in Frankfurt am Main, is a cultural worker and program curator. She directs the Kinothek Asta Nielsen and Remake: Frankfurter Frauen Film Tage (Frankfurter Women’s Film Days). Her work focusses on film and history, critical theory, migration, Eastern European cinema, feminist film work, anti-racism and anti-fascism.
Feven Haile is currently completing her master’s degree while working as a freelance cultural worker. She has worked in various roles for film festivals in the Rhine-Main area and was part of the selection committee of the Berlinale Forum in 2023.
Esra Kartal works as an independent cultural worker and has supported various projects such as the neighborhood project PS: fragile haYmat. She has worked for film festivals such as Remake. Frankfurter Frauen Film Tage and is the managing director of Cinemalovers e.V.
