Re:Frame 2026

Curated by CiLENS e.V.

Re:Frame brings together short film, video art, sound-based performance, and expanded cinematic practices from East and Southeast Asia and their diasporas. It approaches the Sinophone not as a fixed category, but as a condition shaped by migration, translation, and unstable forms of belonging—questions that resonate across ESEA and its diasporas. The inaugural edition, Nearby and Opaque, explores how moving images create forms of relation without collapsing difference: proximities that do not depend on complete understanding or cultural assimilation. Rather than presenting Asia as a coherent identity, Re:Frame approaches ESEA as a field of historical entanglements, uneven proximities, and shifting relations.

Across screenings, talks, performances, and community events, Re:Frame treats moving image not simply as cinema, but as a spatial and social condition of encounter—one in which different contexts, histories, and subjectivities come into contact while remaining irreducible to one another.
