Cinema of Commoning is a project by SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA and various international partners that brings together a network of alternative cinema spaces and practices from around the world to share knowledge and ideas. After successful editions in 2022 and 2024, Cinema of Commoning will return this year for a third edition to expand its global network, with a new set of partners and a symposium.
Grounded in the principles of the commons, the four-day symposium brings together a range of international partners in Berlin to collectively envision alternative futures for cinemas through conversations and exchanges. Emphasising accessibility, artistic freedom and financial sustainability, the programme spans talks, panels, screenings and workshops, where partner initiatives, film professionals and cinephiles gather to exchange ideas and develop strategies for a more inclusive and sustainable film culture.
Cinema of Commoning champions cinema spaces as transnational arenas for artistic and social practice: hubs for public discourse, custodians of cultural memory and urban heritage, and a sanctuary for preserving and sharing rarely accessible film and video formats.
Join us in Berlin to be part of the conversation and celebrate the transformative potential of cinema!
Funded by Hauptstadtkulturfonds and with the support of the Goethe Institut.
A project initiated by SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA (Berlin, Germany) in collaboration with Cine Mayaka (Kigali, Rwanda), Cine Tonalá (Mexico City, Mexico), El Galpón Sala de Cine (Lima, Peru), Kült Kavaklıdere (Ankara, Turkey), Maysles Documentary Center (New York, USA), Minikino (Bali, Indonesia), Videobet (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia).
