Gölge

Sofoklis Adamidis, Sema Poyraz,, FRG 1980, 92 Min., Turkish with English subtitles

Followed by a talk with Sema Poyraz

Gölge, a young girl who lives with her sister and parents in a cramped two-room apartment in Berlin-Kreuzberg, is trying to find her own place between Turkish and German life. Her dream is to become an actress. Adamidis and Poyraz trace the awakening sexuality of young Gölge, her conflicts with her family, and eventual flight from the confines of the family apartment. Inspired by true events and her own experiences, Gölge was Sema Poyraz’s graduation film for the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb) in collaboration with her Greek student, Sofoklis Adamidis. (ML)

“This film, which marks the founding of Turkish-German cinema, breaks new ground with its conceptual rigor and portrayal of society as an ongoing process of negotiation, as well as its sympathetic staging of the sexual fantasies of the adolescent Gölge.” Madeleine Bernstorff

KineKiez takes place in cooperation with the Deutsche Kinemathek.
For the monthly series “KineKiez”, four Berlin cinemas take turns selecting films from the archive of the Deutsche Kinemathek. In March, the Kinemathek is a guest at Sinema Transtopia in Wedding.
