Realized as part of a three-year research project, Stories in Motion comprises 13 short,
experimental documentary films, produced by young people participating in the study. The stories told through the films shine light on the everyday realities of young people planning, dreaming and making their lives in new places. The films offer nuanced views of mobile lives, migration experiences and stories of arrival that extend perspectives beyond the initially planned research program. At the screening event, the filmmakers and researchers will be in attendance, and the event will conclude with a discussion. (DeZIM)
LYMAS is a project that explores the life experiences and strategies of young mobile people in different ageing European contexts. It is a collaborative initiative involving research teams from the University of Neuchâtel, the University of Wroclaw, the Management Center Innsbruck, and the German Center for Integration and Migration Research.
To learn more about the project, please visit our website: https://lymas.dezim.de/
The project is funded by the VolkswagenStiftung as part of the research programme ‘Challenges and Potentials for Europe: The Greying Continent’.
Sezen Kayan is a writer, filmmaker and postdoctoral researcher from Turkey, currently based in Germany.
Zusanne Jakubanis is a Polish creator, teacher, and yogini, weaves paper collages, short films, poems, and occasional works in other media into explorations of memory, belonging, identity, loss, and the quiet beauty of nature.
As a Colombian woman living in Poland, Jessica Muñoz Lucero weaves together her Latin American roots and European experiences through art, culture, and education, fostering cross-cultural understanding and connection.
Yulia Mazurets is an artist who enjoys bringing color into the world, working with an NGO and finding inspiration for her projects in daily life together with her dog Maya.
In her mid-twenties, Aleyna Yıldırım wanders through the tangled paths of migration, work, and human connection—still searching for who she is, after turning a dream of living abroad into reality, only to find it both heavier than she ever imagined, lost between somewhere foreign to everywhere.
Carolina Earle is working towards a PhD under the aegis of the SNSF-funded project "Digital Humanitarianism: Governing Vulnerable Populations in an Age of Technological Innovation." She believes that art and storytelling can be life-saving practices, and that believing in, nurturing, and forging a world in which access to the arts is rendered equitable is deeply essential.
Rosa Ennison is a sustainable mobility professional specializing in decarbonizing supply chains and transportation. Beyond her professional pursuits, she channels her creativity through DJing, music production, and now, filmmaking.
Vrinda Gupta is a doctoral student at the University of Geneva and the Co-producer of the Film Chai to Chocolate. She participated in this research to learn more about filmmaking and to share her migratory experience.
Geneva Oke is a PhD student at the Laboratory for the Study of Social Processes at University of Neuchâtel. She sometimes produces art related to her research interests, but this collaborative work is her first exploration of film as a medium.
Carol Pierre is a doctoral researcher in migration and population studies. Her focus is on anti-racist social movements, using oral history as a primary research methodology. With a background in cultural production and curation Carol is passionate about bridging the gap between art and the academy.
Alessandra Polidori is an Italian sociologist and researcher focusing on mobility and migration, with particular attention to young people. She considers scientific outreach essential, and when she is not writing, she develops photographs in the darkroom.
Navigating frequent changes of places to call home, Matyas Hansel was searching for what goes like a red thread through it all - what do I carry with me all that time.
Arman Kuandykov would like to gain a deeper understanding of nomads, and that is why he became one himself - a new landscape, unexplored lands and people, cultures and languages beckon him. His home is always in his heart.
Sudhan Bhadade is always enthusiastic about new forms of storytelling and the project was a great opportunity to do exactly that.
Mayara Lima says “I am like anyone else: someone trying to find happiness and feel home no matter where I am. A researcher passionate about science, trying to create impact and make people’s lives better by raising awareness about topics like climate change.”
Zogo calls himself a dream wanderer, connecting to people, living stories that matter.
Born without choice of place, time, or family, and with no given voice or role, Karima Karimi now seeks meaning by exploring others and their stories.
