Getting away from the classical Panel format, thus queering the panel form, the “panel” will be presented in the form of a talk show, in reference to Egyptian and Lebanese T.V. mainstream talk shows.
Mohamad Shawky and Iskandar Abdalla will be the main guests, along with two hosts Hassandra and Ahmad Baba. This constellation will allow a fun and playful interaction while focusing on the topic which is Queer representation in Egyptian Cinema. The “panel” would be animated with clips from films.
Mohammad Shawky Hassan is an Egyptian filmmaker living and working in Berlin. His feature-length film Shall I Compare You to a Summer’s Day? premiered at the Berlinale Forum in 2022 and was the opening film at Soura Festival the same year.
Iskandar Abdalla is a researcher, writer, educator and curator from Egypt. His research interests encompass furthermore queerness, film and cultural history in the Arab world and Jewish-Muslim relations.
