KARAOKE!

Storytelling karaoke with Spicy Gingko Collective (Quang Nguyễn-Xuân, Thủy-Tiên Nguyễn, Meilan)

Free Entry, BIPOC* focus space

Song submission and registration until Saturday (11 November, 2 pm) via google-form

The practice of singing and karaoke is inevitably linked to the politics of cultural preservation within marginalized migrant communities. In the case of Asian queer people, it also allows for a sense of embodiment, the expression of queer desire and knowledge transfer. In this party, Spicy Ginkgo Collective will host a storytelling-based karaoke session in which the audience is encouraged to tell their own stories related to the songs they choose before singing them together with friends and family.

* This space and its moderation is directed towards BIPOC and non-white people, meaning people who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color.

Requirement: a negative corona self-test on the day!

Spicy Gingko Collective co-creates spaces that focus on empowerment, art and community.

Thủy-Tiên Nguyễn (they/them) is an artist, performer, writer, dance theater maker, community organizer and political educator who dreams of việt diaspora, queer trans joy, collective care, and softness.

Quang Nguyễn-Xuân (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist, writer and community organizer whose work merges mediums such as poetry, visual arts and performance. Their activism and artistry intertwine in work as community organizer, political educator and space holder for (queer) BIPoC.

Meilan (she/her) works in community organizing and is a fine artist battling impostor syndrome, capitalist expectation and the standards of fine arts from a perspective of the daughter of Chinese immigrants.
