In this Common Visions special, Radical Sounds Latin America presents the German premiere of Universo Circular: Jocy de Oliveira, directed and produced by Dácio Pinheiro. A pioneer of the Brazilian musical avant-garde, Jocy de Oliveira has spent more than six decades reinventing sound and the very idea of creation. In the early 1960s, she introduced electronic music to Brazil, after establishing herself as a pianist and collaborating with figures such as Stravinsky, Xenakis, Berio, Stockhausen, and John Cage. Later stepping away from the piano, she moved into experimental opera, exploring the female voice as a poetic and political territory. Approaching her 90th birthday, Jocy remains restless and relevant, revisiting her career to reflect on time, memory, and the enduring nature of her creative practice.

After the talk, the evening will conclude with a food and community gathering.

Dácio Pinheiro is a Brazilian filmmaker, director, screenwriter, and producer, and the founder of the production company Gore Filmes. Since 2001, he has been developing independent projects that span documentary, fiction, and experimental forms, with a focus on music, memory, and underground culture.

Alejandra Cárdenas (also known as Ale Hop) is a Peruvian-born artist and researcher based in Berlin. Her multidisciplinary work spans live performances, record releases, sound, text and video artworks, academic research on sound and technology, and original compositions for film and dance.

Katia Guedes is a Brazilian soprano based in Berlin. She is internationally acclaimed for her interpretations of contemporary music theatre and opera, having performed in numerous world premieres and collaborations with leading composers and artists.
