Three shorts that reflect on Asian diasporic connections and familial relations across time and space. Aus der Ferne traces German-born Anna’s distant relationship with her father Hung and his country of birth, Vietnam. When she discovers, through a documentary, that he was affected by racially motivated attacks in Rostock in 1992, she suddenly finds herself confronted with Hung's culture and history. In Father, Little Mika helps her father clean Frankfurt's apartment buildings during the school vacations to be close to him. Since the death of his wife, her father has withdrawn. We experience two days in the life of a teen full of small, intimate moments of happiness, but also of confrontations with everyday racism. In My Therapist Said, I Am Full of Sadness a three-year process of undergoing therapy leads the filmmaker to ponder questions of acceptance and love. Archival material from their two families–their biological, devout Christian, Indonesian family, and their chosen queer kin in Berlin–hold some of the answers. (BAFNET)
