La revolución y la Tierra

The Revolution and the Land
Gonzalo Benavente Secco, Peru 2019, 110 Min., Spanish with English subtitles

Followed by a talk (in Spanish) with members of Todas las Sangres and a community dinner

La revolución y la tierra is a documentary that revisits the agrarian reform enacted in Peru in 1969 by the Revolutionary Government of the Armed Forces. Through clever use of archival excerpts from Peruvian film classics combined with insightful interviews with experts, witnesses, and activists, it consolidates an honest reexamination of Peru’s struggle toward land sovereignty, acknowledging the ancestral Indigenous legacy of the territory. This documentary is essential for anyone interested in the role of film in perpetuating colonial power structures, as well as the need to revisit archives in modernity as tools for building a future that acknowledges the role invisibilized peoples in structural reforms. (Galo E. Rivera)

After the screening we will hold dialogue about the current political situation in Peru in regards to the struggle for land, agricultural workers, indigenous peoples and migration.

The Peruvian Intercultural Center Todas las Sangres is an initiative of the Peruvian diaspora in Berlin, created as a space for cultural resistance and solidarity in the face of the challenges of migration and global injustices. Inspired by the legacy of José María Arguedas, the center promotes the defense of Peruvian cultures and their diaspora, solidarity with social struggles in Peru and Abya Yala, and the search for alternatives to the capitalist system. It advocates for the rule of law that protects human rights, rejects neocolonialism, gender violence, and discrimination, and promotes Peruvian arts and literature as a means of identity and resistance.
