Lo que el fuego nos encendió (What the Fire Ignited in Us)
Geizer Bacile, Argentina, 2026, 15min. Spanish with English subtitles.

Followed by a talk with Juana López (online)

In Senda India (Our Demand), in 1991, the young Wichí Miguel Ángel Lorenzo used a Hi8 video camera to film, with humor and sensitivity and alongside members of his community, journeys through the forest, school events, archaeological surveys, and a judge’s visits, as part of the evidence for a lawsuit his community has been pursuing since 1986.

Lo que el fuego nos encendió is  transoceanic story that emerges from the fire in the Cuniputo Valley (Córdoba, Argentina) and the struggle of Juana López, a travesti casqui curaq of the Hijos del Sol Comechingón Community, for the defense of the territory and the creation of a dissident Indigenous refuge/campsite.

Juana López is a trans woman and casqui curaq (a social, political, and spiritual authority) of the Hijos del Sol Comechingón community, whose life trajectory embodies the defense of the territory.
