In 1980, Senegalese director Safi Faye made Man Sa Yay for German television. The film follows Moussa, a student at TU Berlin, navigating solitude, friendships, and odd jobs. Letters from his family and partner in Senegal structure the narrative, reflecting desire and longing. Scenes of fellow West African expatriates reveal parallel struggles and connections, all circling around the recurring question: “When will you return?” (EOTO)
