We Are Inside

نحن في الداخل
Farah Kassem, Lebanon, Qatar, Denmark 2024, 177 Min., Arabic with English subtitles

Followed by a talk with Farah Kassem

Mustapha Kassem's life revolves around poetry. Every day, he reworks a poem or writes a new one. He recites his poetry at symposia or meets regularly with fellow poets, engaging them in lively discussions. After several years abroad, his daughter Farah returns to Lebanon to look after her aging father, whose health is steadily declining. In an effort to get closer to him and his world, she also tries her hand at writing poetry. Will she manage to convince her father of her talent? In intimate images, Farah Kassem presents a sensitive portrait of a father-daughter relationship full of warmth, humour and melancholy, while also depicting a stumbling country that is collapsing around them and plunging from one crisis to the next. We Are Inside premiered at Visions du Réel in 2024 and was screened in the Official Selection at IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam), among other international film festivals.
