Six films that explore the complicated ties between family, memory, identity and the legacies we inherit. Paper Life centres on young Taiwanese worker Lin, who crafts paper houses for funeral offerings and begins to imagine his future through their burning forms. In The Brave Swing, once-enthusiastic baseball player Cheng-Cheng struggles with the aftermath of an experience that has left him withdrawn. Boom! Grandpa, Boom! takes a little girl into a ghost village to rescue her gambling-addict grandfather’s kidnapped soul. In Blooming Dodie, a young girl on the cusp of adolescence wrestles with gender and identity, finding a quiet point of connection with an androgynous bathhouse worker. Songs of Gentle Night offers a dreamlike journey through memories of childhood and those who have passed. Finally, Off Road sees Wei-Cheng confronting an existential crisis as he tries to repair his relationship with his estranged son and break a cycle of inherited trauma.
