When my MumGoes to Heaven is dedicated to the complicated, frustrating and loving relationships we have with our parents. Trip to Heaven approaches parenthood from the times before and after. The film joins two elderly ladies on a tourist trip through the Mekong Delta only to notice that her crush from high school is on the very same tour. Daughters ponders upon the question of parental child relations through a brutally honest depiction of a complex auto-ethnographic process where the filmmakers engage in daring and open conversations with their parents. The camera here becomes not only a witness and observer but also an initiatory tool in relational dialogues. Mother portrays the relationship between a mother and her son in the years after her failed suicide attempt. Trying to make sense of family dynamics, rather than being judgmental or merely resting in a documentary terrain of the what is, this very personal Thai middle class family representation is speculative about what if, yet directly rooted in the reverberations of the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis.
